Adding the referral and/or family doctors on patients charts allows you to keep track of providers you may need to send reports to, or CC on other referrals. When entered properly, the name and contact information of the patient's referral and family doctors can be added to eForms using database tags, which saves you from manually writing the details each time. The information can also be automatically included in billing.

You will find below information on how to add both the referral & family doctors on a patient for both our Classic and Juno UIs below. Note that this guide is specific to BC installations. If your clinic is located outside of British Columbia, refer to this guide instead.

Classic UI

Follow the steps listed below to add a referral or family doctor to one of your patient's chart when using the Classic UI.

  1. Open the patient's master file. This can be done by clicking on the 'M' on the appointment, the demographic number on the 'Search' tool or the patient's name at the top of the eChart, for example.
  2. Click on the 'Edit' link located towards the top left of the patient's master file.
  3. Locate the 'Referral Doctor' or the 'Family Doctor' field on the master file.
  4. Start typing the name of the doctor you wish to add to this field. A few letters will be enough to start giving you results. If you do not see the doctor you are looking for, continue typing to narrow down your search list.
  5. Select the name of the appropriate provider from the list of options displayed under the text field.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Update" button to save the changes.

Keeping the list up-to-date

When adding a referral or a family doctor, you are searching through the list of referral doctors in your system. This list is automatically populated when a new installation is created. This list, however, may not be up-to-date: physicians change locations, new doctors start working in BC and others retire or move on. You will find below information on updating and adding new referral physicians to your list.
