All types of allergies can be recorded in Juno EMR: drug allergies of course, but also environmental or food allergies. When recording them in the EMR, though, there are two categories: drug allergies, and everything else. The reason drug allergies are treated differently is because they are associated with entries in the drug database. This allows you to get a warning when prescribing a drug the patient is allergic to.

To record allergies, follow these steps:

  1. Access the patient record, then navigate to the Summary tab.

  2. Click on the 'Add +' sign beside the Allergies header on the left-hand side of the Summary (Juno interface), or the '+' button on the Allergies header located at the top right of the eChart (Classic interface).

  3. Select the allergy you want to add. You have three options for this:

    a. Use one of the available shortcuts to select the allergy. This will automatically take you to step 4.

    b. To add an allergy to a drug, type in the part of the name of the drug in the text field then click on the 'Search' button. Select the appropriate drug from the results appearing underneath this section, then move on to step 4.

    c. To add an allergy to something that is not a drug, type in what the patient is allergic to in the text box, then click on the 'Custom Allergy' button. You will be prompted to confirm that you want to add a custom allergy before moving on to step 4.

  4. Fill in the details of your allergy in the form.

  5. Click on the 'Add Allergy' button to save the entry.

You can find details about all entered allergies at the top, above the ‘Add Allergy’ section. The allergies will also be listed under the ‘Allergies’ header, however not all details will be visible.
