The Preventions section includes information pertaining to vaccines and preventative examinations such as PAPs, mammograms, or colonoscopies. It is a great way to keep track of all this information in a single location, and to ensure you can run reports on administered preventions and their next due date when applicable.
The Preventions section is accessed by clicking on the ‘Add +’ button by the header on the Summary page (Juno interface) or on the '+' symbol on the Preventions header (Classic interfac. This will open the preventions page in a new window where you will be able to record new entries and see existing ones. The preventions page looks like this:
On the left (a), you will find a list of all preventions currently available to record in your Juno EMR. On the right (b), you will find the preventions that are recommended for a patient of that age and gender as well as notifications if one of more of the recommended preventions have not been recorded.
Saved preventions will be displayed on the right section as well. Look for the entry cards with the patient age and the date the prevention was administered (c). Hover your cursor over each card to see more details about that specific record.
Prevention cards will have different colored backgrounds depending on their status. Refer to the legend located at the top and bottom of the list to know what the color represents. The legend was identified with a yellow rectangle in the screenshot above for ease of identification.
Recording a New Prevention
To record a new prevention, first locate the prevention you wish to record. Some are obvious – Flu for example – while some may not be as clear up front. Hovering your cursor over any of the prevention name will provide more information. Hovering over ‘M’, for example, confirms that ‘M’ is for ‘Measles’. Once you find the right prevention, click on it to open the prevention record form.
If the prevention you are recording is a vaccine, the form displayed on the left on the screenshot above will open while preventative exams will open the form on the right. When filling out the form…
- Prevention – Record the prevention status (completed, refused or ineligible), the date it was administered / done on and which provider offered the service in this top section.
- Result – Record details regarding the results of the prevention.
- For vaccines: Record the vaccine brand name, how it was administered and the details pertaining to this specific dose.
- For examinations: Record the status of the test (pending, normal, abnormal or other). Select ‘Pending’ if you are sending a PAP sample to the lab, for example, then come back to update the result at a later date (see section on editing existing preventions).
- Comments – Add extra comments as desired.
- Next Date – Use this section to record when this prevention should be repeated. You can then use this data to identify patients to call back when running prevention reports.
To set a next date, click on the ‘Set Next Date’ link. This will expand the section as displayed on the right. Enter the next date. If this prevention is not to be repeated, click on the ‘Never Remind’ box and add a reason as needed.
When you are done filling out the form, click on the ‘Save’ button at the bottom left of the page to save the entry in the patient record.
Editing an Existing Prevention
To edit an existing prevention, click on the prevention card in the list of prevention. This will open the prevention edit window which is very similar to the creation form. The primary difference is the presence of a ‘Summary’ section at the top of the page where details on who provided the prevention and when have been generated with the information provided on creation.
Make the required changes on the form, then click on the ‘Save’ button to save the changes and update your prevention entry.
Note: Clicking on the ‘Delete’ button will delete the prevention entry you are currently editing.
